Vilde Sparre - Choreographer
Biography
Vilde Sparre holds a master’s degree in choreography from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She got her education as a dancer at Laban Centre in London and Bårdar Academy in Oslo. She has also studies in theatre directing and dramaturgy at OsloMet. Her choreographic work has been presented on stages and at festivals in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Mozambique. Collaboration with other Nordic choreographers, touring with Concerts Norway, and participation in other artists projects within dance, theatre, music, and film has been an important parts of her artistic journey.
Interdisciplinary approaches and processes lie at the core of Sparre’s artistic practice. She has particularly explored collaborations with musicians as active performers on stage. Approaching each project without fear is essential, and she frequently experiments with a wide range of performative and choreographic strategies – always shaped by the central investigation in each work. She often incorporates elements of risk and deliberately challenges herself to create friction within her own creative process.
Sparre is drawn to exploring possibilities and to explore how performing arts can generate friction with contemporary life and the structures of the human psyche. Her work often start off as imaginary visual images/worlds in friction or as experimentation with new methods. The expression carries an absurd quality with a dark undercurrent of nervous tension. She places great emphasis on the audience and on approaches that allow dancers to embody inner resistance and complexity in their presence. Her work frequently investigates the dynamics between inner intention and external forces – the tension between freedom and boundness in modern human experience. She is particularly committed to revealing the darker and more vulnerable sides of human beings, under-communicated aspects, and the polyphony inherent in communication.
